Society's Statement

CCFS is a non-profit society registered in British Columbia, Canada. As we are not a registered charity, we cannot issue tax receipts at this time. We do, however, accept donations from around the world via PayPal.

We support rural filmmakers by providing realistic funding opportunities and professional mentorship. Through tiered-level programs like this one, we help emerging artists access essential equipment and funding to produce their films. If the minimum funding goals are exceeded, we can then support a full production budget, including wages, labour, and other essential costs.

About the Project

Genre: Live Action: Dark Comedy / Psychological Thriller/ Horror

Runtime: ~20 minutes

Tagline: Pretend long enough, and something real wakes up.

Logline: Two friends head into the woods for a camping trip that spirals from childish play into primal delirium — until one of them stops pretending.

Synopsis: William and David, two friends bound by shared humor and an unshakable lightness, set out on a weekend camping trip. What begins as a long-running joke unravels into something darker, as play blurs into instinct and irony gives way to impulse. Stripped of civility, they lose themselves to the joke and to each other.

Themes:

  1. Perception vs. Reality: The slippery line between joke and reality.
  2. Civilization vs. Instinct: The grey area between civilized and primal behavior.
  3. Liberation: The exhilaration of living without constraints or consequences.

Tone & Style: Minimalist and composed, grounded in naturalism. Pulled from Dogme 95 style; diegetic sound, raw performances, natural settings.

Production Location

The production will be shot on Vancouver Island, British Columbia (Canada) between the towns of Youbou and Bamfield, on the traditional terorties of Huu-ay-aht, Ts’uubaa‑asatx, and Ditidaht First Nation.

Production Crew

The production will hire all local and rural-based crew members. Our team will consist of 11 people, including talent. We’ll focus on giving amateur and first-time filmmakers a chance to get hands-on experience, sharing the philosophy of bringing filmmaking to small, rural communities and creating opportunities for anyone interested in learning the craft.

Writer's Statement

This story began as a reflection of how I try to live. Free from the weight of fear and cynicism, meeting life’s chaos with humor instead of resistance. I’ve always been drawn to the idea that even when things fall apart, there’s something strangely funny about our attempts to keep control. The film explores that thin border between play and collapse, when acting silly becomes a way to survive.

It also draws from my childhood, from a backyard “monkey club” my friends and I built out of my dad’s old fly-fishing shed. We painted it, made our own language, even held challenges to race up trees for leadership. When I became leader, I made a rule that everyone had to eat bananas. I hated bananas. That contradiction, playing by your own absurd rules just because you can, entartains me.

The film’s tone comes from that same spirit: childish invention colliding with adult restraint. It celebrates the kind of friendships that thrive on mischief, lightness, and the refusal to take anything, including horror, too seriously. In the end, the dark comedy form felt right, because laughter and unease often share the same pulse.
