Eligible Communities

Policy Statement:
For the purposes of Coastal Communities Film Society programs, fully urbanized communities and their immediately adjacent areas with established filmmaking infrastructure are considered ineligible by default. This includes the Greater Victoria area, Nanaimo and surrounding towns, and the Greater Vancouver / Lower Mainland region. These locations will not be listed as eligible communities, as our programs focus exclusively on small, rural, and coastal communities with limited filmmaking access.

Tier 1 — High-Priority Rural / Remote Communities

Geographically isolated, minimal local film infrastructure, high barrier to access

Notes on regions:
All of Haida Gwaii is fully eligible due to extreme remoteness.
Northern Vancouver Island (north of Sayward, including Winter Harbour, Zeballos, Kyuquot, Holberg) is considered fully remote.
West Vancouver Island north of Sooke (Port Renfrew, Jordan River, Bamfield, Gold River, Tofino, Ucluelet, Tahsis) is fully remote and eligible.

Tier 2 — Semi-Rural / Moderate Access

Some infrastructure or slightly closer to larger centres; still coastal and small, but fewer barriers than Tier 1
