Short Film Funding Project: The Bit
This Winter, Coastal Communities Film Society is supporting rural emerging filmmakers by providing resources and facilities to bring their scripts to life on screen.
The project aims to empower local talent and give them a platform to showcase their stories.
The selected script, The Bit, is a dark comedy–psychological horror about two friends whose playful camping trip unravels into something feral and unsettling. As pretense slips into instinct, the story explores how quickly humour can twist into something real — and how thin the line between civilization and chaos can be.
The initial funding goal is $1,801.80 CAD, covering film stock and processing costs for shooting on 16mm film. This amount ensures the project can be completed and all essential production expenses are met. Depending on additional funding received, we can expand the budget to cover wages for artists and crew members — offering fairer compensation and supporting the talented filmmakers involved.

Bamfield’s 16mm Workshop (Pt. 2: Editing)
CCFS wrapped up its two‑part 16mm Workshop Series this October with a hands‑on editing session. Participants gathered at Bamfield Media House to see their films projected on real celluloid, learn the art of splicing and editing, and experiment with direct animation using paints and markers. The workshop concluded with a screening of their fully edited films — transferred, cut, and brought to life on screen, courtesy of Bamfield Media House.

Bamfield’s 16mm Motion Picture Workshop
This past August, Bamfield came together for a hands‑on, two‑day community workshop exploring the magic of celluloid filmmaking. Participants aged 16+ learned how to load, light, and shoot real 16mm film using vintage motion picture cameras. Split into small groups, we collectively captured footage inspired by a shared theme — bringing creativity and collaboration to life through the lens.
